COVID-19 Skin Care

Maskne or Acne induced by mask wearing

Clean masks are better for skin than soiled ones so change your mask as frequently as possible. If you are using a cloth mask, have extra clean ones handy so if you sweat, see makeup, or cream on mask interior, you can put a clean mask on.

Wash your face with gentle wash or if you are prone to oily skin, use one with salicylic acid before applying products to the face. Clean your hands, then apply a thin moisturizing lotion if your face is dry or if you are using products that can irritate and dry out skin. Apply medications and wait for them to dry before wearing your mask to avoid medication getting on the mask interior and spreading to unwanted sites.

Tips to stay skin healthy during COVID-19

  • Always start with clean skin, especially on the face, scalp, nails before  applying your medicated creams, gels, products to these areas.

  • Wash your  hands, finger tips  before applying products, medicated creams, gels to the face, eyes, scalp, ears.

  • For small areas such as eye corners, nasal creases, behind ears, use a cotton swabs to clean with soap and water, then use swabs to apply medications, products. Do not reuse cotton swabs.

  • Cover open wounds with soft gauze, bandages to avoid getting accidental contact with bacteria, viruses.

  • Wipe your products, medicated bottles clean daily with alcohol after touching. This is important if youโ€™re sharing products.

  • Keep your creams, gel bottles, tubes in covered areas or sealed ziplock bags when not in use so airborne virus does not land on your containers. This tip can apply to your pill bottles as well.
